Blacksmithing Event
for Boy Scouts, Ventures & Explorers
You may have heard about it from other Scouts and Scouters, you may have even read about it in MABA’s Upsetter, or the ABANA’s Anvil’s Ring blacksmithing publications …
NOW is your chance to participate in the nationally acclaimed
Chief Pontiac Scout Hammer-in!
During this one day event (programs are available Saturday, June 18 or Sunday, June 19, 8am – 5pm) participants in the Hammer-in will be actively blacksmithing all day using four different forging methods and several techniques. We will take a one hour lunch break at noon so be sure to bring a big lunch, you’ll need it. Each scout will make and take home several functional and beautiful items for their own use or that will make unique gifts. Projects may include roasting skewers, dinner bells, J-hooks with feather motif, bowls, eating utensils, and cups... the total value of these items is more than double the price of admission.
This is also a great way to start working on earning your FORT PONTIAC CHALLENGE patch. By participating, you will earn the Blacksmithing corner patch and the right to purchase the center patch. You can earn the rest of the corners by working with your FORT trained leader. Contact us for the complete details of the FORT PONTIAC CHALLENGE program.
If you are interested in working on the Metalworking Merit Badge, discuss this activity with your councilor and invite them to attend the event with you. Many of the requirements may be completed at the Hammer-in, but you must discuss it with your councelor first.
Each unit that registers participants must provide the minimum adult supervision that is required by BSA policy – TWO DEEP MINIMUM . Although the unit leaders will not be actively involved in the projects, they will be helping to provide a safe working environment for the scouts so that our trained staff will be insuring an unforgettable day for your scouts.
Contact Tim Saling at if you have any questions.
REGISTRATION STARTS April 5, and ENDS Friday, May 28, 2010 at 5 pm.
