Philmont Photo Essay Contest
Crew members, here's your chance to publish your best photo or essay on the Great Lakes Council website!
Eligibility
- Any contingent, or independent crew member treking Philmont
- Submit all entries to
Photo Entries
Up to three digital photos per crew should be submitted. Capture the magic of Philmont. Anything goes. Hint: Timeless themes include unusal crew activities, cool scenery, or items of patriotism or reverance.
Explain with a brief, one to two sentence, caption for each photo. Include the location where the photo was taken. Hint: Increase interest with wit, whimsy, or hyperbole.
Mimium photo size requirement: 1024 x 768 pixels, jpeg format
Prizes:
1st Place

$75.00 gifit certificate sent to the troop to be used for high adventure gear. The troop can give any portion to the Scout's fund. |
2nd Place |
$50.00 gifit certificate sent to the troop to be used for high adventure gear. The troop can give any portion to the Scout's fund. |
3rd Place |
$25.00 gift certicate sent to the troop to be used for high adventure gear. The troop can give any portion to the Scout's fund. |
Essay Entries
- Up to three written essays per crew
- Topic to be either "What Philmont means to me…" or "They say Philmont is a magic place…"
- 1st Prize: $75 gift certificate sent to troop to be used for high adventure gear. Troop has discretion to share any portion to the Scout’s fund.
- 2nd Prize: $50 gift certificate sent to troop to be used for high adventure gear. Troop has discretion to share any portion to the Scout’s fund.
- 3rd Prize: $25 gift certificate sent to troop to be used for high adventure gear. Troop can give any portion to the Scout’s fund.
Notes:
Entries must be submitted by August 31st. Winners will be announced by September 31st. Judging is subjective. All decisions are final. Contestants agree to allow photos and/or essays to be posted on the DAC website and used in to promote the DAC high adventure program. Photos may be cropped. Essays may be edited to comply with BSA guidelines.
Individual names cannot be used. Troop numbers will be used to identify the winners to comply with BSA Guidelines.
