Day Camp FAQ & FPAs
There are several Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) about Cub Scout day camp.
Here are some, along with the Frequently Provided Answers (FPA)
Q: A few people in our pack know they will not be able to arrive on time to the camp. Can they still attend, and what happens?
A: They may still attend, and need to check-in at the registration area upon arrival. However, it is mandatory that the required minimum supervision be provided to your den at all times. If you know in advance that someone will be late, make sure to be responsible and arrange for someone else to cover their walker duties. Also, keep in mind that when arriving late, certain stations will be missed, and will not be able to be made up in most cases. (5-15-2011)
Q: Where do we send our medical forms?
A: You don’t send the medical forms anywhere. The pack coordinator (or parent, if an individual) is responsible to ensure that the medical forms are received from each Scout, walker, and sibling and to bring those forms (and completed camper release forms) to the check-in area on the first day of the camp. Please see the coordinators guide to registration. (5-15-2011)
Q: We have an 11 (or 12, or 13) year child. Can they help me at day camp?
A: In a limited way, yes, they can help. This age is too young to be in a volunteer staff position (it is not permitted by standards) and yet too old for the sibling’s program (ages 3-10 only). While youth this age are permitted to attend, they must be under the direct supervision of a parent, guardian, or regular Boy Scout troop leader (such as when a troop volunteers at day camp). Otherwise, 11 through 13 year old youth are not permitted at day camps. (5-15-2011)
Q: We have new Tigers or other new Cub Scouts joining our pack after the late registration period begins. Does the late fee apply to these newly joined Cub Scouts?
A: No, new Cub Scouts may attend camp at the normal rate. However, you will need to contact the program department at to make arrangements for these adjustments. The online system has no way of knowing which Scouts are new, and will charge the late fee to all registrants. Don’t forget, the new Scouts must be registered with BSA before attending day camp (mandatory). (5-16-2011)
Q: We want to register, but we don't have a pack coordinator and it looks like one is required. What do we do?
A: The best solution is to volunteer to become the pack coordinator, and to find some other Scouts and parents to join you and your Scout at day camp. However, you may register an individual Scout using the online system (list yourself as the coordinator). The big caveat of doing this is that you will lose the benefit of having pack coordination of den-walker duties, and will need to walk with your Scout each day of camp. Pack coordinators also help the check-in process move faster by organizing their pack and ensuring the medical and camper release forms are ready to be turned-in on the opening day. (5-3-2011)
Q: Must a Webelos Scout participate in the Webelos den, or may he remain with our pack's den?
A: The Webelos den is strongly encouraged, for it provides some more challenging age-appropriate crafts and activities. However, it is possible to enroll a Webelos Scout into the pack den (with Tigers, Wolves, and Bears). Do this by selecting "4th or 5th" grade as applicable, and "Bear" as the rank (rather than Webelos) during the online registration process. You may also contact the program departement to communicate your desire to opt-out of the Webelos den program. (5-3-2011)
Q: We have mostly Webelos and only a couple younger Scouts attending day camp. Can those Scouts be in the Webelos den?
A: No. While the Webelos Scout is capable of accomplishing the activities below his rank, it would not be appropriate to introduce a Bear, Wolf, or Tiger Scout to the Webelos den activities (they are not necessarily age appropriate for those other ranks). (5-3-2011)
