Steve Bakker, an assistant Scoutmaster in Ithaca, worked closely with State Senator Roger Kahn and Representative Paul Opsommer to develop legislation to create a license plate to benefit the Boy Scouts of America. Senate Bill 104, which was signed by Governor Rick Snyder in June of 2011, created a fund-raising license plate that will be available at local Secretary of State offices. Proceeds will benefit the Boy Scouts of America beginning in January of 2012. "It was a great honor to help Scoutmaster Bakker create a license plate to benefit our local Boy Scouts," said Kahn, R-Saginaw. "Being involved in Boy Scouts of America teaches local youth important skills and responsibility, helping shape our leaders of tomorrow."
Scoutmaster Bakker expressed his appreciation for the efforts of Kahn and Opsommer. "Senator Kahn and Representative Opsommer have always been supportive of the Boy Scouts and have exhibited great patience and dedication in getting this bill passed for the Scouting supporters in our state," Bakker said. "I feel fortunate to have two legislators represent me who have the ability to keep bills like this moving while simultaneously dealing other weighty issues, like our state budget." Beginning in January 2012, anyone can purchase the “Boy Scouts of America” plate for just $35.00 at any Michigan Secretary of State’s office or use the order form available at www.michigan.gov/sos. |
